The Guitarists Mantra |
We guitarists can be an infuriatingly twitchy bunch; temperamental as thoroughbreds and about as reliable as one of Mr Branson's trains, but at the same time we're almost pitiful in our vulnerability to the excesses of fragile egos, substances legal and illegal, and of course the attentions of the opposite sex. Almost universally despised by our fellow musicians for our diva-like temperament and innate ability to access undergarments far beyond our stations, we nevertheless deserve sympathy, for it is a great burden as well as a blessing. What other instrument fosters an almost homicidal competitiveness and schaudenfreude, where players pour withering scorn on others, while studiously stealing every lick and riff that we can. Behind the intense rivalry, however, guitar players share an unbreakable bond that's reflected in our relationship with the instrument itself. Love, hate, love; joined at the hip - the guitar is the king of musical instruments with a physical beauty matched only by its virtually limitless expression . |
